2009-International Year of Astronomy

It's almost here the 400th year from whence Galileo Galilei looked deep into the night sky and recorded his timeless investigations.

The major goals of IYA2009 are to:

  1. Increase scientific awareness;
  2. Promote widespread access to new knowledge and observing experiences;
  3. Empower astronomical communities in developing countries;
  4. Support and improve formal and informal science education;
  5. Provide a modern image of science and scientists;
  6. Facilitate new networks and strengthen existing ones;
  7. Improve the gender-balanced representation of scientists at all levels and promote greater involvement by underrepresented minorities in scientific and engineering careers;
  8. Facilitate the preservation and protection of the world's cultural and natural heritage of dark skies in places such as urban oases, national parks and astronomical sites.

    Now since I know I shan't live for another 100 years this is only year that I can participate.

    I take my chance by for sure studying basic Astronomy and using that knowledge in fantasy tales for my artwork. I plan on visiting my Science Center, look though a telescope at least once, learn the shapes of the constellations.

    I will also most likely re-watch Terra E... (I must purchase the Manga and DVDs) and perhaps as well some other Space Opera Classics as well as Saint Seiya as that can loosely but directly tie into astronomy (I may also watch a little Sailor Moon but I prefer St Seiya's violence)

    Remember “The Universe, Yours to Discover
